Funeral Eulogies Examples
The key word is life, and you've been given the opportunity to celebrate a loved one's life in the individual way that made your friend unique. Friends and family can be really helpful at a time like this but this doesn't help you to put down on paper how you really felt about your mom. Perhaps the best way to start approaching the task of writing a eulogy is to go back to the meaning of the word eulogy, which is derived from Greek words translating broadly as a good word.
It requires that you sit down and think about the person who has passed on, and decide on the traits and stories that you want to share about their life. The way they showed their feelings to family, friends and people who knew them. As much as the poem is written as a tribute to the deceased, it should also be considered as a reassurance to the living. General poems can be read during the eulogy by the person performing the funeral.
Funeral information can also be found through a church, synagogue, or other place of worship. Collecting the information is also a good way to start as it will force you to write some things down. Following or in some cases, prior to a service is the burial of the deceased. There is typically little research that needs to be done.
I was asked by a couple of family members if I had given any thought to having someone by my side during the reading of my funeral poems for mom, to be quite honest, I didn't have a clue why I would need anyone there. It is best not to push the bereaved to talk about his lost loved one rather this should be a spontaneous thing. But ensure it is not over whelming because it might upset the bereaving family. A poem comes from the heart, is a fitting tribute to the dead and the living to be remembered in time.
Even if they do not have anything in mind, it helps a lot on the part of a grieving person to know that he is surrounded by friends that care for his welfare. If you are still looking for funeral poems, I have written more on the subject which I hope you may find useful. The truth is that death is a doorway into a new home, an entrance to new way of living life with God and you. Do not try to embellish your story with half truths or lies.
I know some of what you are feeling right now which is why I wrote these articles. If you are gifted with the blessing and talent of writing poetry for the dead, share it.
